Hi Don

I'm afraid that I will have to disappoint you with my Chamney connections.  At present we do not know exactly how my Chamney family connects to the Lanark Co Chamneys though we were all in Co Wicklow.  I can but construct a theory as to how we may be connected to Edward Chamney and Jane Twamley.  The problem lies in the fact that too many of the essential church records are missing and, even back in the early 1900s, some were indecipherable when William Chamney put together the pedigree for the John Chamney, 1650-1733, and Jane Bacon line to which none of Lanark Co, Huron Co nor Perth Co, Ontario Chamneys belong.  We are all most likely descendants of John's brother, Edward, of Tykillen, Co Wexford.

My family, traced back to William Chamney and his wife, Jane Annesley, who married at St Kevin's C of I, Dunganstown Parish, Co Wicklow in 1826, was probably connected to John Chamney of Ballymoat & Ballymanus Lower, Glenealy Parish, Co Wicklow who most likely was William's father.  William was living at Ballymoat at the time of his marriage and John Chamney was there for the Tithes in 1827.  All William and Jane's sons were baptised at Glenealy.  Pretty conclusive, I should think.  I think that John may have been the son of another John Chamney and his wife, Mary (may have been a Bradshaw).  The latter John had died by 1789 and his wife, Mary was living at Kilnamanagh, Glenealy Parish probably with a son, William (1765-1840).   John and Mary's son, Christopher, married Anne Driver about 1805 in Co Carlow, just across the border from Aghowle Parish, home of the Lanark Co Chamneys.  Can't be a coincidence and the Kilnamanagh Chamneys may have been from Aghowle Parish at one time.  My family and Christopher's attended the Church of Ireland church in Glenealy Parish though Christopher's lived at Conniamstown, Dunganstown Parish.  The Glenealy Parish church was closer to the Chamneys at Conniamstown and Ballygannon.

My family definitely did not come out to Ontario at the same time as the Aghowle Parish families, having departed sometime in the spring of 1834 and they settled in Simcoe Co, Ontario for 21 years before heading to Perth Co, Ontario, specifically Wallace Twp.  William and Jane travelled with their 5 children and probably John (1772-1854).  John was buried at St John's Anglican Church, Tecumseth Twp, Simcoe Co.  We do know that the Huron Co Chamneys, Richard Chamney and Euphemia Mason, were some sort of "cousins" to the Wallace Twp Chamneys.  I believe that Richard was the son of William, 1765-1840, just have no proof.

There was certainly a connection between the Lanark and the Huron Co Chamneys and Richard spent time in the Kingston area, not far from Henry Chamney of Elizabethtown Twp, Leeds Co, Ontario.

I personally do not have a website.  I did publish my own Chamney family history last year and held a reunion for the Perth Co family which was well attended.

The information that I have on the Lanark Co Chamneys comes from Lorna McLean, Eleanor Henderson and Eileen Jackson as well as from sources like the census and BDMs.

I'm not sure that I can help your group, however, if you would like me to join then that is fine.

Isn't it a small world when one of your Halpenny members lives in the same city as me!

Thanks for your time, Don.

Cheers

Deb Flanagan

Dear Graham and Deb,
Sherry Twamley forwarded your email on the Orangemen to me. I have a website, www.halpenny.net. We currently have about 100 Halpennys, Jacksons, Halfpennys, and Twamleys. I would like to have connections to all of the families on the website. The more familes that we have that came over together the more we can share and learn. I would like to invite you to join our group to share your Chamney info. If you are interested all you have to do is let me know and I send a welcome email with your email address to everyone in the group and then you have all of those emails.

I hope that you will decide to join us and share whatever Chamney info that you would like to. Also, if you have a Chamney Website please send me the address and I will add it to our website.

I forgot to tell you. We have a Patrick Halpenny and his family at Christchurch, NZ in the group. His email address is halpenny_family@xtra.co.nz.

Thanks,
Don Halpenny
